A new museum has recently come to our nation’s capitol, or should I say a newseum. The Newseum has become Washington D.C.’s most interactive museum. It is a museum that features news from over the past 5 centuries. The Newseum aims to have its visitors better understand the importance of our country’s media industry. It is a museum of the history of the media in America. The museum is filled with America’s original newspapers that began the era of news, such as the New York Weekly Journal. It also contains famous news articles such as ones after the 911 attacks.
When visiting the Newseum’s website, you can find links to its YouTube channel and its Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr pages. The Newseum also has a link to a page that displays the front page of 849 newspaper across the country. This is exceptional because you can click on the link and actually view and read the newspaper’s front page. In the following video CBS News’ Bill Plante takes us on a tour of the Newseum.
In the video Bill shows us just how interactive the Newseum is. He enters the Show Yourself as a Reporter exhibit in the museum. Here visitors can stand in front of a camera and appear before different reporting backgrounds, such as the White House. This exhibit alone is thrilling for visitors and children. But the Newseum takes this excitement to a new level. Once visitors access the Newseum’s website, they can download everything they recorded and email it to friends and family.
The Newseum provides strong interactivity in and outside of its walls. With our country’s news industry delving into the interactive social media world, it is no surprise that our country’s Newseum is doing the same!

This is a very creative way of providing information. I like this museum is purely focusing on the history of media. It makes learning interactive and interesting. I believe that this will gain a lot of attention and make people more aware of our history of media and the changes we face now with social media becoming a major trend. I also like that once you access this Newseum you can send information you find to your friends and family. Just like with all social media its about creating connections and relaying information to friends. The Newseum makes it easy to do this and this will help them gain more attention.
This is really neat. There is so much interesting stuff to learn about in a museum such as this one, I’ve never heard of a museum dedicated solely to news. Seeing as news media has adapted and affectively began to utilize social media it is only fitting that the musuem of news must embrace it as well. I think taht social media could really be beneficial to the Newseum. Who knows, maybe one day advances social media and social media news will be documented within this museums walls.
I definitely think that social media will eventually somehow be incorporated into the Newseum. With all the talk about the extinction of newspapers, it seems very probable that we will one day rely solely on social media for our news. I’m excited to follow the future of this museum!
It’s so cool that once you “Show Yourself as a Reporter” you don’t even have to buy the video and you can access it on the Newseum website. Even cooler is that once you access it you can send it to all of your friends. It’s interesting that the museum focuses a lot on print journalism and not so much on TV. It’s true that print journalism has been out there longer but people our age do not really read the paper. I agree with the previous comments in that I would like to see social media news be part of this museum because it is beginning to dominate all.
